Merit Incentives needed a configurable product that could bring employee recognition, rewards, content, payments, and administration into one coherent experience. Elementica contributed to the development of Peoppl — a production multi-tenant platform connecting employee engagement workflows with Merit services such as GiftCardsBy and RewardsBy.

One configurable platform for employee engagement and rewards

Multi-tenant architecture supporting organization-specific experiences

Connected recognition, gift-card, reward, payment, and notification workflows

Central administration with tenant- and office-level control

01

Client context

Merit Incentives is a global engagement-technology provider with solutions spanning employee engagement, loyalty, gift cards, rewards, marketplaces, payments, and API-driven integrations. Its employee engagement offering helps organizations recognize achievements, provide meaningful rewards, and give administrators visibility into engagement activity.

Peoppl forms part of this wider product ecosystem. It brings employee-facing experiences and enterprise administration together while connecting to related services: GiftCardsBy for instant gift-card capabilities and RewardsBy for employee recognition and rewards.

02

The challenge

An employee engagement product must serve several audiences at once. Employees need a simple experience for recognition and rewards. Managers need tools to support teams and operate programs. Tenant and office administrators need control over users, content, permissions, and configuration. The platform operator needs visibility across the ecosystem without weakening the separation between customer organizations.

The experience also had to hide the complexity of the connected services behind it. Recognition, rewards, gift-card functionality, payments, automated notifications, and administrative actions needed to feel like parts of one product rather than unrelated systems.

Multi-tenancy made this more demanding. Different organizations required their own configuration and content while sharing a stable product foundation. The architecture had to support those differences without creating a separate codebase for every customer.

03

Elementica's role

Elementica contributed product engineering to Peoppl as a multi-tenant web platform within the Merit Incentives ecosystem. Our work covered the platform foundation and CMS, tenant-specific customization, API-driven connections between services, employee engagement and rewards workflows, office-level permissions, payment processing, automated notifications, and administrative oversight.

The goal was not simply to add isolated features. It was to help create a product structure in which customer organizations could operate independently while Merit retained the controls required to manage the wider platform.

04

The solution

A shared platform with tenant-specific experiences

Peoppl was built around a multi-tenant model. Each customer organization could operate in its own controlled environment while using the same product foundation.

Tenant-level customization allowed the platform to adapt to different organizations without fragmenting development into customer-specific versions. This created a repeatable base for onboarding and supporting enterprise customers while preserving individual product experiences.

CMS capabilities for configurable content

The platform included content-management capabilities so that the employee experience could be managed through the product rather than requiring a development change for every update.

Combining CMS functionality with tenant awareness made it possible to manage content in the context of each organization. This was essential for a platform designed to serve different employee communities through one system.

Recognition connected to meaningful rewards

Peoppl brought recognition and reward workflows into the same employee journey. Recognition could lead to a usable reward experience, while the wider Merit ecosystem provided access to gift-card and reward capabilities.

This connection gave the product a practical role beyond internal communication. Engagement activity, recognition, and reward fulfilment became parts of a single platform experience.

Permissions for distributed organizations

Office-level permissions provided a structure for organizations that needed responsibility to be distributed across locations or operational units. Users could be given access appropriate to their role without exposing every administrative capability across the tenant.

This layer supported both local administration and wider platform oversight, helping the product serve organizations with more complex internal structures.

Payments, notifications, and service integrations

Payment processing and automated notifications were integrated into the product workflows rather than treated as separate operational steps. API connections linked Peoppl with related services and enabled data and actions to move through the broader rewards ecosystem.

The result was a more coherent user and administrator experience across engagement, recognition, payments, gift cards, and rewards.

Central administrative oversight

The administration layer gave the platform team visibility and control across customer organizations. It supported user and tenant management, configuration, content, and operational workflows while respecting tenant boundaries.

This balance was fundamental to the product: customer organizations needed autonomy, while Merit needed a manageable platform rather than a collection of isolated deployments.

05

Engineering decisions that mattered

Multi-tenancy as a product capability

Tenant separation was not only a database concern. It affected permissions, content, administration, customization, integrations, and the employee experience. Treating multi-tenancy as a cross-product capability created a stronger foundation for growth.

Configuration instead of customer-specific forks

Tenant-level customization and CMS tools allowed one platform to serve different organizations. This preserved a common product foundation and made ongoing improvement more sustainable than maintaining separate versions.

Integration behind one user journey

The platform connected related Merit services without forcing employees or administrators to understand the internal product boundaries. Integrations were designed around complete workflows rather than a collection of disconnected API calls.

Administration at multiple levels

Combining platform-wide oversight with tenant- and office-level permissions allowed the system to support both centralized governance and distributed operation.
